Dare to Care: A Poverty Simulation

REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED During the immersive exercise, you’ll be assigned the identity of an under-resourced member of our community. For two hours you will role-play the day-to-day challenges faced by low-income families, demonstrating the interconnected obstacles and scenarios commonly encountered.

In your role, you will interact with volunteers participating as service providers, agency workers, law enforcement, teachers, government entities, and employers. This inclusive simulation will challenge your perception, change your perspective, and inspire new understanding and empathy for what so many of our fellow Martin County residents face.

When:
Wednesday
January 17, 2018
9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Where:

IRSC Chastain Campus
Clare & Gladys Wolf Technology Center

Why:
Poverty is a reality for many individuals and families in Martin County, but the realities are difficult to truly understand. This simulation bridges that gap from misconception to understanding. An interactive immersion experience, this event sensitizes community participants to the realities of poverty. The goal is to enlighten our community’s influential members and leadership in order to better advocate for our struggling neighbors.
