September is Hunger Action Month [tm]

September is Hunger Action Month* — a nationwide campaign to raise awareness and mobilize the public to take action to fight hunger.

House of Hope is involved in the following activities during September.

Volunteers, participants, sponsorships and donations are welcome!

Sept 16-17: Energy Fair
House of Hope is participating in the annual ALPI Energy Fair at the Martin County Fairgrounds. Although the event is focused on assistance with light bills, many local agencies will have representatives at the fair to offer information and on-site services.

Sept. 19: Day of Caring
House of Hope is participating in the annual Day of Caring event organized by United Way of Martin County. Teams of volunteers will be putting together meal packets for food insecure people in Martin County. The Day of Caring event starts with breakfast at 8 a.m.-8:45 a.m. Then, from 9 a.m to 11 a.m., more than 250 volunteers will put together 50,000 meals.

Sept. 19: Live With Grace food drive/Coastal Cleanup
A food drive will be conducted by Live With Grace Kids 4Kids in conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup, organized locally by Keep Martin Beautiful. The event is 8 a.m.-11 a.m. at the main Stuart Beach.

Sept. 21-26: Food for Fines
The Martin County Library System each year offers a chance to wipe out your fines on overdue books, CDs, DVDs, etc., in exchange for food for House of Hope.

Sept. 22: Ribbon Cutting, Indiantown branch
Stop by House of Hope’s Indiantown branch from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for an open house and ribbon-cutting by the Indiantown Chamber of Commerce.

Sept. 25: Hope Awards Luncheon
Join us from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Pittenger Center for our annual celebration of community partners that have long-term, wide-ranging or otherwise unique relationships with House of Hope in the fight against hunger and hardship in Martin County.

Sept. 26-27: St. Joseph Catholic Church food drive
The House of Hope truck and volunteers will be on hand before each Mass to collect food from parishioners in one of the church’s many food drives throughout the year.

Sept. 28: Family Day
House of Hope is joining with the Banner Lake Club, Tykes and Teens, United Way of Martin County and Character Counts! to sponsor a Family Day meal, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Banner Lake Club, Hobe Sound. Family Day is a national initiative that promotes simple acts of parental engagement to help prevent risky behavior in children and teens.

Sept. 29: Eat Healthy! 
The public is invited to participate in a free healthy eating workshop, 10 a.m.- 10:45 a.m. Sept. 29 at House of Hope’s Indiantown branch.  Marybeth Peña, Nurse Program Specialist of the Florida Department of Health in Martin County, will conduct the workshop.
