Safeco Insurance has honored R.V. Johnson Insurance for its extraordinary service with House of Hope, a nonprofit agency that empowers Martin County residents to overcome hunger and hardship.

The award included a $4,000 donation, a feature story on Safeco.com (Building Hope and Beating Hunger) and the chance to win an additional $1,000.

For House of Hope to win the additional $1,000, at least 50 different individuals had to leave an encouraging comment – a “cheer” – on the story featuring R.V. Johnson and House of Hope during the week of Feb. 22-28.

Those 50 cheers came swiftly, bringing the total grant for House of Hope to $5,000.

R.V. Johnson support of House of Hope has also included conducting food drives, donating Easter baskets, sponsoring events and conducting its own “charity thrift store.” To carry out the latter creative idea, the office’s 25 employees donated items and then participated in a silent auction.

“The money raised was used to purchase turkey dinners at Thanksgiving for the families of House of Hope,” said Kelly Johnson of R.V. Johnson Insurance. “They were able to supply over 300 pounds of turkey from our donation.

The funds received through the Safeco Insurance award will mean even more support for House of Hope.

“The $5,000 grant will help House of Hope provide thousands of pounds of food to the local community,” Ms. Johnson said. “More importantly, if the award creates awareness about the work of House of Hope, I think that we have helped in a way greater than what the $5,000 can offer.”

Throughout 2016, Safeco will select a total of 66 independent insurance agencies for the awards and donate up to $330,000 to the nonprofits they support.

“We at R.V. Johnson Insurance are so thankful to work with companies like Safeco that believe in local needs and solutions in our community,” Ms. Johnson said.
