The fourth Annual Charity Doubles Tournament hosted by Buttonwood Tennis Club Nov. 17-19 was another vast success thanks to all involved. Proceeds from the three day event benefited House of Hope, supporting the agency’s mission to empower Martin County residents to overcome hunger and hardship.
The tournament opened with the Serve Some Hope VIP Party and Pro-Am competition Friday, Nov. 17, Over 100 party attendees enjoyed gourmet tasting stations showcasing food from restaurants across the county including food generously donated by Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, Tausha’s Seafood, New England Fish Market, The Quiet Crab and Importico’s Bakery Café. DJ Louie G Entertainment donated their musical services to the party as well. The ProAm competition paired tennis professionals from area clubs with amateur players for a very spirited doubles competition. The victorious pairs were Patrick Galligan and Emma DeCoste in Division One and Ron Baliton with John Koahou for Division Two.
Throughout the weekend an extensive silent auction kept participants checking in and hoping to win the wonderful baskets and art donated by dozens of local stores and clubs. The highly anticipated House of Hope bake sale commenced throughout the event providing guests with a variety of homemade treats beautifully decorated by talented volunteer bakers.
The doubles tournament attracted more than 100 players who competed in 11 divisions throughout the weekend. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the Men’s, Ladies’ and Mixed doubles divisions.
This year’s tournament success would not be possible without the efforts of committee co-chairs Susan and Tom Whittington, participation from House of Hope volunteers, the patronage of dozens of local tennis players, and tireless tournament management by Buttonwood’s tennis director, Jeff Wilson.
